Your most-asked pageant headshot questions, answered

Whether you’re brand new to pageants or this is your 7th year, you’ll likely have questions about pageant headshots. This week I share common questions I’ve received when people are booking with me.

Do I need to hire someone for hair and makeup?

I highly recommend it. Good hair and makeup ensures your skin and features photograph to the best of their ability. Ensuring skin tone evenness is extremely important because it allows retouching to be less-intense. I believe in getting as much right “in camera” instead of relying on tons of photoshop, which can leave images looking fake. Plus, hair and makeup services make you feel beautiful, and that confidence comes through in your images.

When should I book my session?

I advise booking 1-2 months prior to any pageant file due date (not the pageant itself!). This ensures you’re able to get your images back, make your selections, and not have to pay for retouching rush fees!

How does travel work? Do you come to me or do I need to come to you?

Both! Either! You can either meet me on the road in my pre-established travel places (Cali, Texas, Wisconsin, Chicago are on the list for 2021!) OR work with me to get to your state. I’m always open to traveling to you individually, but most often it’s easiest & most econimical to find 5+ pageant friends who want to book over the same weekend.

Otherwise a weekend trip to Minneapolis is always a fun idea. I even have a list of hotel recommendations with times to & from the Minneapolis (MSP) airport and my studio.

Do I have to pay more to add my crown & banner into a few photos?

Absolutely not! You’re welcome to add your crown & banner to any outfit you want to shoot in. You earned it—let’s shoot it : )

What should I wear?

After booking, you’ll receive a confirmation email with links to multiple Pinterest boards that give you tons of ideas for classic, style-forward, and casual pageant headshot looks.

I’m also ALWAYS here to help you style. Bring more than you need, and I’m great at pulling styles together on the day of your shoot. Once I see everything in person, I’m always happy to share my opinions & suggestions.
