AI wrote a blog post for me. “Exploring the Boundaries of Photography with AI: A Week with Photoshop's Beta AI”

In the ever-evolving world of photography, new technologies continually push the boundaries of what is possible. Over the past few months, I had the opportunity to experiment with AI in Photoshop, starting with the beta version and now the fully integrated Photoshop AI version. This cutting-edge technology has shown great potential, particularly in areas such as hair manipulation, but it also revealed its limitations when it came to generating complete scenes. Join me as I delve into my journey with Photoshop's AI and discuss the exciting possibilities it holds for the future of photography.

As a photographer dedicated to capturing the essence and beauty of my clients, I am always seeking innovative ways to enhance their images. The beta AI version of Photoshop has opened up a whole new world of possibilities. One area where it has proven immensely helpful is in adding and removing hair. The AI algorithms have made it easier to achieve flawless results, saving both time and effort in post-production. The precision and accuracy with which it handles hair manipulation have been truly remarkable, resulting in stunning and natural-looking portraits.

Challenges and Lessons Learned: While the AI technology has certainly revolutionized certain aspects of retouching, it is essential to acknowledge its limitations. During my experimentation, I discovered that prompts requiring the generation of full scenes posed a significant challenge for the beta AI. While it's an exciting concept to think of AI generating complete backgrounds or environments, the current capabilities still have room for improvement. However, this experience has only fueled my curiosity and eagerness to witness the future developments in AI-assisted photography.

The Future of Photography with AI: Despite the challenges encountered, my overall experience with Photoshop's beta AI has left me inspired and optimistic about the future of photography. The potential for using AI to enhance retouching techniques and create even more captivating images is undeniable. As this technology continues to evolve, I am confident that it will become an invaluable tool for photographers like myself, enabling us to push the boundaries of creativity and deliver extraordinary results for our clients.

Embracing a New Era: Incorporating AI into my retouching workflow is an exciting prospect. The synergy between human creativity and artificial intelligence holds immense potential for creating beautiful, winning images that will captivate both clients and audiences. I am thrilled to embark on this journey, embracing the possibilities and leveraging the power of AI to unlock new levels of excellence in photography.

Conclusion: As I reflect on my week of experimentation with Photoshop's beta AI, I am reminded of the dynamic nature of the photography industry. The mixed results have served as a reminder that technology, while promising, is still a work in progress. Nonetheless, I am filled with enthusiasm for the future and the role that AI will play in shaping the art of photography. Join me on this exciting path as we explore new horizons and harness the potential of AI to create awe-inspiring images that transcend the limits of imagination.

As always, I am grateful for the continued support from my clients and fellow photographers. Together, we can embrace this new era and celebrate the ever-evolving world of photography.

Stay tuned for more updates and the latest developments as I embark on this journey at the intersection of artistry and technology.

P.S. Did you catch that I didn’t write this? Chat GPT is the author is this blog post. Okay, now everything below is written by me.

Success: AI assists in filling in a gap in the hair due to foundation color & where the hair is parted

Failure: AI asked to create a Barbie house themed background. And we got this.

Success: AI removes people in the background

Here are my real, human thoughts:

AI is cool, terrifying, helpful, creativity-dimming AND creativity maximizing, all at the same time. It’s allowed me to say “yes” to so many more photoshop requests than I previously was able to. It’s saved hundreds of hours in editing. It’s helped write instagram captions (kinda…) and ideate (kinda…). My bottom line is that it’s a helpful jumping off point. But just like anything else, a good tool is only great in the hands of someone who knows how to use it. Personally, I’m taking my time to become that person who knows how to use it well.

XOXO
